Quick Golden Text
I have seen many tutorials that make gold effects on text using channels, flatten image or rasterize. Here you will learn to make golden text only using Blending Options.
1) Create a new image 400×150 pixels with white background.
2) Fill the background with black color #000000

3) Add some text. I have used CType AOE 48 px:

4) Right click the text layer and choose Blending Options, use these settings:
Outer Glow: use this color: #ffcc00

Bevel and Emboss:

Inside this option go to the Shading section and click on Gloss Contour. Then make some curves similar to these:

Gradient overlay: use these colors #ffcc00 —> #ebcc50 —> #ffcc00

5) The final result is:

6) The nice thing about this tutorial is that you can use the same effect on any font including symbol fonts. Just duplicate the layer and change the font.
I have tested some different fonts and this is what I got:

What font you used?
I have used “CType AOE” font
it’s an awesome tutorial. It looks kinda metallic so can it be used with other colors?
Of course you can use other colors.
Try change these color to these settings:
- Outer Glow: use this color: #ffffff
- Gradient overlay: use these colors #ffffff —> #f4f4f4 —> #ffffff
And you will get a nice silver golden text
Try changing the glow and the gradient colors and you will get nice metallic colors!
Ya Tutorial is nice..
People are doin many exercises to do this..and not gain the result like ya..nice..
Simple, easy to follow, and to the point. Really nice tutorial. I tried it with fonts such as Fuzzy Xmas, Flying Leatherneck, and Grave Digger. Really cool. I also played around with the gradient overlay and got some neat looking font. Thanks for the ideas.
dude, im so new to this what do u mean by Right click the text layer and choose Blending Options?
In Photoshop you have your work organized in layers.
When you make new text, Photoshop automatically make a new layer for this text.
So go to the layer panel (if you don’t have this panel opened, just open it going to Window > Layers), select the layer where your text is, right click the mouse button and will appear a menu. In that menu you have an option called “Blending options”.
Hope that helps.
cool i did it, but mine is kinda diffrent, just at the end i can’t find those 3 colours
I have the same problem that Pyro has, and I am kinda new. I got Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, can I still make it. The thing that I do is that I have a little window with the layers, background and text, I rightclick the text layer and:
Rename layer (I translated…)
Duplicate (same)
Delete (same)
Simplyfy or something (same)
And then in gray, Delete layer style or something (same)
plz help me
For Pyro: to select the 3 colors for gradient look at Gradient Overlay option, and you will see Blend Mode, Opacity, Gradient, Style….Just click on the Gradient sub option and will appear the gradient selector, there you can choose all the colors you want.
For Newbie: sorry but I have never used Photoshop Elements, so I can’t help you

Great tutorial! I’ve been looking for one of these for a while now. Thanks alot.
I added a few more options to mine. Including “Satin” and “Bevel/Emboss -> Contour”. I just played around with those two until I found something I liked.

Hey,
Thanks alot!
Your tutorial was excellent!!
Take it from me. (a graphic design student)
Good tutorial, it doesn’t just work with text either. Try using some shapes too.
I used this idea for a 10th Anniversary corporate event website. They were very impressed.
Thanks!
The instructions were really easy to follow. I have tried other instructions and they were more complicated and some of them I could not even do.
Great! Great! Great!
Thanks!!
Thanks! this is what i been looking for!!!
Thank you very much !!! This helps me lot…
awsome tutorial, im a beginner and i found that easy to follow, when i came across a similar one a while ago i had no idea how to do it, welldone
Great find. Thanks for sharing. Clearly explained too.
I have very much because of this effect
thnxxxx
Great job, thanks alot! Exactly what I was looking for!
Also, I’ve found that if you’re using this style on a background other than black, that adding a black stroke to the text helps to bring it into focus and look a bit better.
this metallic effect is top notch. was exactly what i was looking for and then some. I’ve recomended this tut to three designers i know already.
Great Job!
